Note also that there are different Dirac Live licenses and you should check which one your system comes with. I found it to be very interesting and a lot of fun, but YMMV. Allow for a few weeks of experimentation. But if you follow the guides you can achieve a lot without understanding it all. I followed through a lot of guides until I got things to where they are now, but I would say I only understand 10% of what the program can actually do.
REW is not an easy program to use and understand. Note that most of the cost difference between the Dirac and standard versions is accounted for by a full-range Dirac license. MiniDSP offer the 2x4 and 2x4HD which is the DSP platform without the Dirac Live integration and license. Without the hard work first though it wasn't as effective - I was still left with slightly uneven bass response - certainly it was much better than without any DSP though., In particular adding time delays for the slightly asymmetric sub placement, some very specific parametric EQ filters and experimenting with a range of crossover frequencies and filters helped me sort out most of the room issues before Dirac comes into play.Īfter that the Dirac feels like the icing on the cake, helping to get things from good to exactly how you want. I certainly found that if I just used Dirac without doing all the hard work first it wasn't as effective. They recommend using REW to first find the right parameters to dial into your DSP to get the system as good as possible and then run Dirac Live to fine tune at the end. It is a very powerful DSP platform with parametric equalization and sophisticated crossover filters and time delays. MiniDSP doesn't require you to use REW with the DDRC24, but they strongly recommend it.
